For over a decade, Janitasound has been providing excellent AV services in Portugal. Starting out in the tourist industry grew their network and helped them develop a unique approach to lighting and sound design. In this blog we discuss with Janitasound's co-owner, Rui Miguel, about their journey, handling challenging venues and how Admiral Staging’s products have been a huge help.

Janitasound found its mission around 15 years ago. Originating from Lisbon, the AV service provider currently supplies music and lighting design at corporate and social events. Briefly starting out in the tourist industry gave them the networking opportunities to find their consumer market, teaching them about live music in the process. With every booking, Janitasound aims to be unconventional in their approach and problem-solving, always making sure that their designs are memorable. Sometimes customers would come to them with challenging venues and difficult setups. This made them look for a brand that had already found solutions to those problems."Admiral Staging's products have allowed us to use some of our lighting and sound equipment in various ways. For instance, in places where it is challenging to hang or install something," says Rui.

Outside of the box

In the early stages, Janitasound was founded by Joao Miguel while his brother Rui pursued a career as a DJ. However, shortly after the business began, Rui recognized the company's potential and chose to get involved. Rui has the creativity and drive to create unique solutions for his clients and above all likes to learn from other professionals in the field. Having to do same day set-up testing on a low budget made him think outside of the box.

The company is currently active in the middle and small market, but that does not stop the brothers from going above and beyond: "We always try to bring an exclusive feeling to the events that we do," says Rui. Working with Admiral Staging was an easy decision: "When we first started looking into the possibilities with Admiral Staging, we quickly realized that there's nothing like it on the market, both in price/quality ratio and the customizable nature of the products. Most competitors sell equipment that is best suited for theatre use, equipment which often isn't event-friendly unfortunately. The versatility that Admiral brings to the market is truly what sets it apart from competitors in my opinion."

Favourite Admiral products

Janitasound is familiar with Admiral Staging's catalogue. When asked what their favourite products were, Rui explained that even though the Vintage luminaires were the products that first caught their eye, Janitasound has used a variety of products such as: Floor stands, Ramp support systems, various textiles and the Freedom system, which is a favourite: "It is in the name really, freedom! The fact that you can use it on the floor or the ceiling, use fixtures with different widths and more. Suddenly a venue with a low ceiling stops being a challenge." Portugal has lots of historical venues that aren't exactly built for complex truss installations. You can't rig all kinds of fixtures to the ceiling when the event is held in a medieval monastery. Admiral Staging's innovative products help professionals like Rui execute their ideas with little to no limitations. Rui was pleased to see that someone had already thought of solving the problems he was experiencing on the job. "These are the kind of solutions that allow us to set up our designs in a faster, safer and more creative way," he says.

Internationally minded

Janitasound and Admiral Staging didn't first meet in The Netherlands or Portugal for that matter: "I remember when I first met you guys in Barcelona. You were there for the ISE convention last year. I've seen a lot of growth from Admiral. It is great to see that your innovation and solutions are starting to make an impression on more people and companies." Today, Admiral Staging's core mission is still providing one-of-a-kind products that are highly adaptable, which Rui noticed: "The willingness to hear and understand the clients’ needs and actually use the feedback to improve your products is amazing. Next time I have an idea for a problem I can't fix I will definitely contact you guys."
